When the first Iphone came out, I didn’t think much of it to be honest – until I was holding it in my hands that is. During the years of mobile phone usage I owned quite a few devices but had never seen anything like the Iphone. I started with a Nokia and still think they make nice phones. Just recently when I was in Finland, I had the opportunity to use the N97 and think it is really well built. I don’t have to start talking about features, as Nokia as well as HTC are well known for squeezing as much technology into such small devices as possible. HTC is another mobile phone producer and with its P3600 I was introduced to the world of mobile phones with touchscreens, which I simply loved. So why did I dislike the Iphone at first you wonder? Well, partly because I didn’t think much of its hardware. Every phone I had until then was more packed than the Iphone. Even the P3600 had GPS and TomTom already, as well as a better camera. My opinion changed when I visited an even more gadget loving guy than I am, where I held the phone in my hands for the first time. He also introduced me to blogging and so on, but that’s a totally different story. :)

I really liked how sensitive the screen was and how instantly the applications started. But back then I wasn’t too crazy about it. A year later, with the Iphone 3G and more features, I could barely withstand the urge to buy it, but my mind (which I actually listen to once in a while) stopped me from doing so. Reasons for that are simply the price tag and the Telekom contract, as I find Vodafone’s policy about foreign calls more likeable.

With the Iphone 3GS, reasonable data tariffs and most importantly connections to Italy, I finally bought the phone and couldn’t be happier – mind you I’m talking about a gadget here, so my happyness is not in relation to my ‘real life’ but gadgets. ;)

The phone is simply amazing. The screen is the most sensitive one I experienced and although it’s not the best, as the resolution of my HTC Diamond 2 is a lot higher, it’s great and everything else is just nitpicking. Applications, of which I already have quite a few, start and stop instantly, load quick and simply work. I was afraid of not being able to use multitasking, but I would choose quick opening applications over WindowsMobile’s multitasking any day. Everything seems so well thought through. At this point I should say that I did find some flaws : an unlock screen that doesn’t offer a calendar overview or a little mail sign, that shows how many messages, mail or such likes I got is not understandable at all and neither is the incapabilty of the phone to be invisible when using Bluetooth.

Still, this phone is most likely the best touchscreen mobile phone I had in my collection and so far there’s only one phone that could take it’s place, but until July it’s still a while in which I can enjoy my new phone.
