Not being allowed to have a mobile phone with camera at work (because of security reasons), I’m forced to have a secondary phone, next to my iPhone. While this is already troublesome enough, as I can have only one phone registered in the network at a time, emails as well as my calendar and contacts aren’t sorted at all, which makes changes to them quite annoying – until now.

I finally managed to register at the OVI-store and get my old but still well working Nokia E61 to syncronize my contacts and my calendar. Also, push-email is finally working the way I like it. So how did I get it to work?:

1) I’m using Nuevasync, which works very well since I got it, That’s also the reason why I got a premium account. There’s a free trial though, to test the service.

2) Get an OVI account and download the newest version of Mail for Exchange of MfE.

3) Simply follow these steps and there you go, a synced calendar and contacts on all your phones as well as push-email.

From the first day mobile phones allowed multiple numbers and further information to be stored under one name, I wondered why it wasn’t and still mostly isn’t possible to automatically add details such as birthdays from the contacts’ details to the mobile phone’s calendar.

Using Google and its products finally solved that for me. Entered contact information such as birthdays are automatically syncronized with Google Calendar. All you need to do, is to enable that calendar. To do so, please follow these steps:

0) Create a Google account, if you don’t have one already.

1) Visit Google Calendar via your Gmail account or visit Google Calendar.

2) Click Settings and visit the Calendars tab.

3) Now follow the Browse interesting calendars link.

4) Under the More tab you will find Contacts’ birthdays and events.

5) Subscribe and enjoy. :)

Syncronizing your mobile phone contacts and calendar with Google is a great way to keep track of birthdays and other events you entered into your contacts’ details. No need to create an extra calendar entry any more. Was about time someone solved this gap between the calendar and contacts syncronization if you ask me.

Sharing appointments with others, inviting them and syncing it to your portable device are all features the Google calendar provides. When I tried to create a calendar to share information with my girlfriend though, I faced the problem of different time zones. Not happy about cluttering my calendar with additional calendars for each time zone, I was happy to find Google having thought of this already.

If you want to share a calendar crossing time zones, simply follow these steps:

0) A Google account is necessary. If you dont have one, please create one in order to follow the steps below.

1) Go to your Google calendar.

2) Visit the Settings page.

3) Mark the Display all time zones field. (Alternatively choose the country you would like to be shown and click on the additional time zone field to choose a city within the country you just selected. Skip Step 4.)

4) Choose the countries you would like to have displayed.

5) Save your settings.

6) Enjoy!
